Members of the media are invited to attend a “Law School for Journalists” on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

The event is organized by the Judicial-Media Committee in collaboration with the Connecticut Bar Association.

9:30 to 10:15 Sentencing primer presented by Superior Court Judge Susan B. Handy and Superior Court Judge David P. Gold -- Topics to be covered include:
  • The conviction: How do we get there?
  • What happens next? The presentencing investigation.
  • What happens at the actual sentencing hearing – who speaks, what’s the order?
  • What does a judge consider at sentencing? What needs to be known about the defendant? The victim? What are sentencing factors that the Court must consider?
  • What kinds of sentences are there?
