Who we are
The Statewide Grievance Committee is a body of twenty-one individuals, comprised of fourteen attorneys and seven non-attorneys, appointed by the judges of the Superior Court to review, investigate and adjudicate attorney ethics matters. The Committee is assisted by the Statewide Bar Counsel and Assistant Bar Counsel in performing duties and responsibilities set forth by Superior Court rules and statutes to assist the Superior Court in maintaining the integrity of the bar of the State of Connecticut.

The primary function of the Statewide Grievance Committee is the review and adjudication of complaints alleging attorney misconduct. Additionally, the Statewide Grievance Committee reviews reported overdrafts of attorneys' clients' trust accounts and takes action where necessary. The Committee also maintains the Roll of the more than 30,000 attorneys admitted to practice in Connecticut, and enforces payment by attorneys to the Client Security Fund.

Apart from the obligations to the Statewide Grievance Committee, the Statewide Bar Counsel has additional duties as set forth in the Practice Book. Two other areas that the Statewide Bar Counsel oversees are:
